Chris Nelson

Chief Operating Officer at Misfits Market
Detailed Info

Chris Nelson is the Chief Operations Officer at Misfits Market and a seasoned leader in the food industry. An alumnus of the University of New Hampshire, Chris traveled the country in an RV post-graduation, eventually landing in San Francisco to start his career in restaurant management. He opened a successful quick service restaurant in the acclaimed Westfield San Francisco Centre where he spent eight years at the helm. Seeking new adventure, Chris joined the original meal kit company, Blue Apron, in 2015, running operations in their Richmond, California facility. Later that year, he turned his attention to organic foods and became the eighth employee at Sun Basket, a new leader in the meal kit space. Chris and his team opened three fulfillment centers across the country, grew Sun Basket to $300 million in annual revenue, and built a team of more than 1,000 employees in just three years. Chris was connected with Misfits Market Founder and CEO Abhi Ramesh in December 2018 and initially began advising on operations and logistics. Impressed with the company’s leadership, business model, and mission, Chris officially joined the team in March 2019 and has shepherded Misfits Market through 10x operations growth in less than two years. He’s overseen the opening of the company’s Delanco, New Jersey headquarters and its second fulfillment center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and third in Fort Worth, TX. The facilities, totaling over one million temperature-controlled square feet, allow the company to ship to 98 percent of the U.S. population. In 2022, Misfits acquired its competitor, Imperfect Foods, making Misfits Market one of the fastest-growing consumer goods companies in the country, employing more than 1000 team members and having amassed more than $500 million in funding.
